Nephosity Announces Issuance of US Patent for Medical Image Viewing Technologies

Venice, CA, 8 July, 2014

Nephosity Inc., a health technology company that was a member of Rock Health’s second class, today announced that the United States Patent and Trademark Office has issued US Patent 8,773,463 covering Nephosity’s innovative technology for real time medical image viewing and collaboration.

"This latest patent makes claims in connection with our technology that allows for real time streamed viewing of full resolution DICOM medical images, simultaneous shared viewing between two or more collaborators, and the viewing of large format images (such as digital x-rays) on mobile devices with limited hardware capabilities," said Michael Pan, CEO of Nephosity.

The patented technology is a core part of Jack Imaging®, Nephosity’s HIPAA compliant platform for collaborative multi-specialty care, which includes the FDA 510(k) cleared iPad medical image viewer. Demand for medical image sharing, exchange, and collaboration services provided by Jack Imaging is growing due to changes in the healthcare system, such as the move towards accountable care and the enactment of Meaningful Use Stage 2 requirements. Users on Jack Imaging are already benefitting from this patent, in their daily usage for virtual tumor boards and remote specialty and second opinion consultations.

About Nephosity:

Jack Imaging is available on all devices through a modern, standards based web browser, as well as a native app for the iPad that is FDA 510(k) cleared.

Nephosity Releases Telemedicine Platform for Collaborative Multi-specialty Care

Venice, CA, May 13, 2014

Nephosity, a digital health startup that was a member of Rock Health’s second class, announces the availability of Jack Imaging, its telemedicine platform for collaborative multi-specialty care. Using Jack Imaging, a patient, her primary care provider, and her specialists can securely and effectively collaborate over her medical and imaging records to achieve best possible outcomes.

One main challenge for a patient with a chronic disease is to ensure that each and every one of her specialists have access to all of their medical and imaging records in a timely manner. Jack Imaging addresses this accessibility challenge with its case management capabilities, allowing each member of the medical team to access and contribute to the patient’s records. Another challenge is the ability for the physicians to communicate with each other in an efficient manner. To that end, Jack Imaging includes secure messaging, video conferencing, desktop sharing, and a collaborative medical image viewer. All of Jack Imaging’s features are platform independent and available from within the web browser, without any plugins or other installed software, to ensure that everyone can use the platform - anywhere, anytime.

Patients can also use Jack Imaging to store and securely share medical images with other providers. Storing images in the cloud and sharing reduces dependency on CDs, leading to improved efficiencies in provider workflow as well as increased patient engagement through self-management of imaging records. This helps patients, caretakers and providers overcome the all-too-common speed and compatibility hurdles associated with image viewers today. When medical images are unavailable at the point of care (e.g., the CDs are lost, forgotten, or do not load), patients are often reimaged. This redundant imaging incurs additional costs for both payers and patients and exposes patients to additional and otherwise unnecessary radiation. On the other hand, patients who store their medical imaging related data on Jack Imaging ensure that their data is available whenever they are needed.

Nephosity will be on stage to demo our technology at the Innovation Spotlight, as part of the American Telemedicine Association’s (ATA) 2014 Annual Meeting. Additionally, Nephosity will be exhibiting at the ATA Startup Pavilion. We invite all interested parties to come visit us at booth 1612.

Nephosity Releases Easy Drag and Drop Medical Image Viewer for the Web Browser

San Francisco, November 18, 2013

Nephosity, Inc., a health technology startup that was a member of Rock Health's second class, has released a new version the Jack Imaging Web Viewer which allows instant viewing of medical images (e.g., CT, MRI, X-Ray) in the web browser, with no plug-ins or installation required. Users can simply drag and drop a CD containing their medical images onto the web browser (available at jackimaging.com/demo) and begin viewing medical images.

"Patients want to view their medical images, and we are excited to be able to empower patients to do so." says Michael Pan, Nephosity's CEO. "This is a step towards our vision of a healthcare ecosystem where medical images are available at the point of care, across transitions of care."

The Jack Imaging Web Viewer’s many features include:

  • Easy drag and drop to view images
  • A search function to locate images, e.g. by patient, study, or series name
  • Image manipulation through window and level, pan and zoom functions
  • Annotation and cursor capabilities
  • Collaboration sessions
  • Anywhere, anytime access

A short demo video for the Jack Imaging Web Viewer can be accessed here: http://youtu.be/8ia87DUxB7M

Jack Imaging (http://jackimaging.com) is currently in beta and will support additional medical imaging related documents, such as diagnostic reports and visible light images, in the near future.

Nephosity’s MobileCT Viewer Receives FDA 510(k) Clearance for Diagnostic Image Viewing on iPads

San Francisco, May 22, 2013

Nephosity, a digital health startup that was a member of Rock Health’s second class, has received clearance from the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for their MobileCT Viewer, a software application for diagnostic image viewing on the iPad.

Nephosity, Inc. builds the platform for anywhere, anytime medical image viewing, sharing, and collaboration, improving the medical imaging workflow for physicians and other healthcare providers, which lowers costs, engages patients, and improves care. This FDA 510(k) clearance reaffirms the quality and safety of MobileCT Viewer, and allows for diagnostic viewing of CT, MRI, and X-ray medical images by trained professionals on the iPad in situations where there is no access to a workstation.

MobileCT Viewer’s many features include:

  • Anywhere, anytime access to CT, MRI, and X-ray images
  • Image manipulation such as window and level, pan and zoom
  • Full resolution images, ensuring that no detail is lost
  • HIPAA compliance, with SSL encryption for all information in-transit and 256 bit AES encryption for all patient information at rest
  • Measurement of distances, display measurements and annotations
  • Verify Lighting Check, which guides the user to determine whether the environmental lighting conditions can accommodate a diagnosis.

Nephosity will incorporate the FDA cleared MobileCT Viewer into its medical image platform so that physicians can view images collaboratively and diagnostically. Additionally, Nephosity will expand the platforms and devices on which MobileCT Viewer will run and submit supplementary applications for clearance of clinical diagnostic imaging on devices not already cleared by the FDA.
